The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) has organized a practical workshop aimed at data protection delegates from the scope of action of the Authority participating in this year's edition of the Specialized Training Course for Data Protection Delegates (DPO). The objective is to provide them with tools to deepen the approach to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems and their impact on human rights and privacy.
The conference was attended by Alessandro Mantelero, member of the Ethics Committee of the Polytechnic University of Turin, scientific expert for the ethical evaluation of the European Research Council (ERC), expert of the European Data Protection Board and professor of Private Law and holder of the Jean Monnet Chair of Mediterranean Digital Societies and Law at the Polytechnic University of Turin.
Mantelero spoke of the human rights impact assessment (IAHR) as a tool destined to have a fundamental role in the framework of AI regulation. Although it is already applied in high-risk AI solutions, Mantelero has argued that it is also suitable in other high-impact ICT projects.
