The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) is the independent body that guarantees the right to the protection of personal data in the Catalan public sector and the private sector that performs public functions and services, including professional schools and public and private universities in Catalonia.
What do we do?
- We defend the rights of citizens: We resolve citizens' complaints and claims, when entities and organisations breach the European Data Protection Regulation.
- We advise organisations: we provide information and resources to organisations and advise them on compliance with data protection regulations. We promote technological innovation that respects the right to data protection and privacy.
- We promote training and awareness: We promote courses, conferences and workshops. We prepare informative materials to disseminate the rights and obligations that guarantee privacy and the citizens’ right to data protection.
- We supervise the entities: we check that Catalan public sector entities comply with data protection regulations, and also the private companies that provide them with services, such as ICT cloud computing services. We also advise them on introducing privacy from the start of each project.
