The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) promotes digital education through the SX3 Academy, the first digital rights school for children in Catalonia, an educational innovation project in which it participates together with 3Cat, the Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital), and the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia, which has Next Generation funds from the Department of Education, within the Strategic Plan for Digital Education of Catalonia.
The project aims to train and give tools to primary school teachers to accompany children and young people in their media education and digital well-being.
Through this initiative, it is intended to convey to educational centers the need to guarantee ethical, critical, inclusive and responsible digital environments, as well as to manage one's own digital identity and privacy in a conscious way.
The first edition of the project, which started last October, involved an educational community made up of 2,861 students and 257 teachers from nine primary schools across Catalonia, led by a motor team made up of 30 teachers. As they do in their classrooms with the students, the teachers have studied content related to training and digital well-being, and have had to demonstrate the learning acquired through practices with the students.
Specifically, the school of digital rights focuses on three training blocks: media education, digital well-being and content creation. The aim is to learn how to manage one's own digital identity, privacy and personal data in a conscious and sovereign way, as well as to have a good state of physical, psychological and emotional health in a hyper-connected world. The risks of digital technologies and social networks are addressed and advice is given to achieve healthy habits.
The project has had the advice of the participating entities regarding the content of the thematic blocks, including the APDCAT, as well as the pedagogical advice of Learn to Check.
The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) has collaborated together with 3Cat, the Mobile World Capital Barcelona (MWCapital) and the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia in a project to empower teachers in Catalonia to accompany students in their education digital, critical and responsible with privacy.
