The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) and the School of Public Administration of Catalonia (EAPC) have published the sixth chapter of the series 'Let's talk about personal data', a project that includes the development and dissemination of resources to raise awareness and train the people and organizations that have to process personal data. This time, the podcast is aimed especially at the entrepreneurship sector and emerging companies.
The data protection officer and strategic projects manager of the APDCAT, Joana Marí, details key aspects to take into account when applying privacy in a business project, based on the doubts raised by a professional.
In this sense, he recommends being aware of whether the activity will require processing personal data, such as e-mails or names that identify people, as well as the type of data that will need to be used. This will make it possible to determine the protection measures that will need to be applied to avoid risks, possible leaks, computer attacks, etc.
It also goes into the obligations that the regulations establish for any person or entity that processes personal data, such as informing the affected persons when their data is processed, applying appropriate measures to the risk or signing a contract, if entrusted the treatment to a third party.
The 'Let's talk about personal data' series delves into more specialized and regulatory compliance aspects. The first five chapters address the following topics: the right of access guaranteed by data protection regulations, the commissioning of data processing, the processing of minors' data, data security breaches and the right to information of data protection.
The project also includes a line of videos, which offer a more general view and focus on basic concepts about the subject that can be of interest to anyone.
