It is now possible to follow the activity of the Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) on LinkedIn. The Authority has launched a new profile on LinkedIn, in order to give visibility to the institution, inform about the activity of the organization and raise awareness of privacy protection to professionals.
Through the new profile, the APDCAT will inform about the activities it promotes or in which it participates, the scheduled acts and events, the projects underway, etc. It will also disseminate informative materials, such as videos, podcasts and guides that it produces, to bring the defense of data protection rights closer among different groups. Given that this service is aimed especially at the professional, business and institutional world, the APDCAT aims to extend especially the need to implement privacy by design and by default, from the beginning of any project that involves processing personal data, in accordance with the regulations. All the information that is disseminated through this profile will also be available on its website, so that the social network will never be the only alternative available to find out about it.
The APDCAT recalls that its presence on LinkedIn does not imply that it endorses the privacy policies of social networks, and recommends users to be adequately informed about who has access to their personal information and if it can be used by third parties, and under what terms. In this sense, it underlines the importance of maintaining control of personal information shared on the internet and social networks, to avoid risks. Also, remember that the fact of following other profiles does not necessarily imply that you have a special bond or that you agree with their criteria and opinions.
The Catalan Data Protection Authority opens a new institutional profile in this professional network, with the aim of giving visibility to the activity of the organization, informing about the news and raising awareness about the importance of privacy from the design between entities and organizations.
