The Catalan Data Protection Authority will participate on February 3 in the conference on personal data protection and artificial intelligence in scientific research, organized by the TransJus UB Research Institute.

Specifically, the head of the Legal Advisory Service of the APDCAT, Xavier Urios, will address the challenges and opportunities for scientific research of the European regulations on the protection of personal data and artificial intelligence, together with the Secretary General of the European Data Protection Supervisor, Leonardo Cervera.
Subsequently, Dr. Alessandro Mantelero, professor of private law at the Polytechnic University of Turin, and Dr. Ricard Martínez, professor and director of the chair of privacy and digital transformation at the University of Valencia, will give two presentations on the guiding framework on the Fundamental Rights Impact Assessment (FRIA) and AI defined for the ethical review procedure of EU-funded projects, and on the European Health Data Space and its requirements for scientific research projects, respectively.
The day will end in the afternoon with a round table in which a practical vision will be given on the protection of personal data and artificial intelligence in scientific research through the participation of Patricia Lozano, data protection officer of the Open University of Catalonia, Cristina Guzmán, data protection officer of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Ruben Ortiz, data protection officer of the University of Barcelona, and Paula Martín, data protection officer of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona.
