These include data revealing ethnic or racial origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data aimed at uniquely identifying a natural person, and data relating to an individual's health, sexual life or sexual orientation.
The General Data Protection Regulation defines biometric data as personal data resulting from specific technical processing, relating to the physical, physiological or behavioural characteristics of a natural person, which allow or confirm the unique identification of that natural person, such as facial images or dactyloscopic data.
Accordingly, if it is used for the purpose of identifying or authenticating the identity of a natural person, a fingerprint subject to specific technical processing is considered a special category of data.
