The Catalan Data Protection Authority (APDCAT) will take part in the Children’s Festival from 27 to 31 December at the Fira Montjuïc venue, with the aim of raising awareness among children and families about privacy culture. Taking advantage of this fun and educational event, it will offer clues and advice to younger audiences on how to protect their privacy on the internet and social media.
The space reserved for APDCAT, covering nearly 100 m², simulates a tropical jungle this year, featuring a central maze made of netting and filled with attached data. Under the slogan ‘Don’t let the web tangle you up’, the Authority challenges children and families to decide which data should be “saved” from the web and not shared with others. The task is to identify personal data, which are data that identify or can be used to identify people.
These include data such as name, phone number, address, image, voice, and more. Depending on how they are used by others, they may lead to negative consequences. In this regard, as part of its awareness-raising work aimed at vulnerable groups such as minors, APDCAT promotes awareness of the risks involved in losing control of personal data by sharing personal information on the internet and social media.
Magic tricks for children
In addition to raising awareness through play, APDCAT will also offer this year the magic show P@ssW0rd!, once a day throughout the festival. The show encourages children’s participation in discovering the key data needed to solve a final riddle about personal data, through various magic tricks and lots of fun.
The show can be seen on the youth stage on the following dates:
- 27 December, at 11:00 am
- 28 December, at 5:00 pm
- 29 December, at 11:00 am
- 30 December, at 5:00 pm
- 31 December, at 10:30 am
